· 40 people attended the event, including:
o Representatives from almost all the print and broadcast media in Bhutan
o Representatives from the National Environment Commission (NEC); the Royal
Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN); the Environment Unit, United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP); the World Wildlife Fund (WWF); the Japan
International Corporation Agency (JICA); the Austrian Coordination Office (ACO); the
Department of Geology and Mines (DGM); the Netherlands Development
Organization (SNV), and the Liaison Office of Denmark (LOD)
Meeting objectives:
· To enhance the role of media in disseminating information on climate change in an
interesting and a simple manner to people
· To spread and share knowledge on Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) as an impact of
climate change in Bhutan
· To share Bhutan’s position on the Global Climate Negotiations
· To learn about the difficulties faced by the media in increasing public awareness on
climate change
· To provide suggestions to the media on how to spread public awareness on climate
change
